Today’s Musical Monday isn’t so much tech-related, but it is pretty geeky, so I have no doubts that no one will mind indulging me.
Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on television. The brainchild of Matthew Holness and Richard Ayoade, Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace is on the surface a ‘lost classic’ television show from the 1980′s starring famous horror writer Garth Marenghi. The character is the star of two stage shows, and a short-lived show on Britain’s Channel 4 TV that I happen to consider one of the best cult television shows ever made (warning, self promotion).
The show isn’t on DVD here in America, but it’s been broadcast several times on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and the Sci-Fi Channel. Until someone decides to rebroadcast it, I recommend you search for it on Google Video, where you can watch the entire 6-episode season for free. It’s hilariously brilliant stuff, spoofing General Hospital, 80′s culture and music, the horror genre, and just about everything else. It is without a doubt one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. I can’t recommend it enough.
