As someone who reviews movies as one of my many positions of blog employment, I’ve been running into a little problem lately. Actually, it’s a big problem. Movies are getting longer and longer. Movies have been hitting two and a half hours lately, and movie theater sodas aren’t getting any smaller either. The smallest soda you can get at a movie theater is still the size of a normal large drink, and when you’re halfway through a 135-minute movie, well… the bladder can only hold so much liquid.
That’s where Dan Florio comes into play. He’s a software developer who, while watching Peter Jackson’s 3-hour opus King Kong, thought about how great it would be if there was a way to know when you could get up from your seat to hit the bathroom, buy some popcorn, make a phone call, or stretch your legs without either missing something crucial. Since nobody puts intermissions into movies anymore, he decided to create RunPee, the bathroom break timer website/app. For those of us who can’t miss anything important in the movie, this is perfect!
The program is far from finished. RunPee for the iPhone and the RunPee website are both functional, but he’s working on a vibrating timer to let you know when good pee break spots are in the movie, a version that works offline for the iPod Touch, and versions for other smart phones.
This is definitely an idea whose time has come, and this guy deserves to make a fortune for this brilliant app!
